Disney's Create A Fairy

In 2007 we created an online character creator for the Disney's Tinkerbell films. Over the course of seven years from 2008, to 2013, players created over 100 MILLION Fairies.

Create a Fairy was such a hit that only 18 months later, SilverTree along with our friends at Schell Games launched the online virtual world Pixie Hollow.

Complete Character Creation

Kids could choose from tons of options to create their perfect fairy.

We divided the base character up into a fully articulated paper doll which was layered together in Flash. This allowed us to set archor points for clothing, which moved properly with any base animation.

Each piece of the figure had a primary and secondary tintable hue, allowing for a rich palette of color choices.

A Unique Character Creator

We chose to look at everything we made as existing in Neverland, which is a wild and adventurous place. Its home to the Lost Boys, Captain Hook, and Tigerlily. The art team created a deep jungle island color palette. We drew inspiration from the original 1953 version of Peter Pan as well as other sources. The deep focus parallax movement was inspired by the illustrations of Willis O'Brien for the 1933 version of King Kong. The depth of field (blurry background, sharp action area, silhouetted blurred foreground) was inspired by insect photography.

Allowing the team to expand the boundaries of the inspirational material gave the final product its own unique look and feel, and ultimately made it Disney's most successful character creator.
